The Packright StrapRight Strap Set (Fig 1) comes standard with all PackRight Car Top Carriers except the Sport Jr. Each set is comprised of (4) nylon straps that are 1 inch wide and over 10 feet long, with an 800 lb. breaking capacity. The straps, which are treated with a waterproof coating, can be used to attach the carriers to vehicles with or without a luggage rack.

For Vehicles WITH A Roof Rack
When using the StrapRight Strap Set for your carrier make sure you do not exceed the roof rack's weight limit. Attaching two straps front to back between the cross bars (Fig 2) or two straps side to side between the side rails will sufficiently secure the carrier. Using all four straps, however, provides the most secure method of attachment (Fig 3).

Connecting The StrapRight Strap Set
Each StrapRight strap has two strap pieces connected through a center buckle. First, unthread the short strap piece from the buckle and secure it to your roof rack by threading its end through its loop and pulling tight (Fig 4).

Go around to the opposite side of the vehicle and secure the long strap piece to the rack by the same method. Run both strap pieces through the d-rings on each side of the cargo bag (Fig 5) and bring them together on top of the carrier. Then thread the short strap back through the center buckle (Fig 6), reconnecting both strap pieces.

For Vehicles WITHOUT A Roof Rack
For vehicles without a roof rack, you can still use the StrapRight strap set by running the straps through the vehicle.
Unthread the short strap piece from the center buckle and connect its loop end to the loop end of the long strap piece (Fig 7). Then run the strap through the open vehicle and through the d-rings on the sides of the cargo bag, bringing the two ends together over the top of the carrier (Fig 8). Finally, rethread the short strap piece back through the center buckle (Fig 6 above) and tighten appropriately.

When using car top carriers on vehicles without roof racks it is recommended to place the Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad between the carrier and the roof of the vehicle. This will help keep the cargo bag in place while driving (Fig 9 and Fig 10).

With larger vehicles, one strap will not be long enough to secure the car top carrier. Therefore, you can connect two straps together (Fig 11).
Leave one strap as originally provided but separate the two pieces of the second strap by unthreading the short strap piece from the center buckle. Connect the loop end of each of those separated pieces to each loop end of the first strap (Fig 7 above). Do the same for the remaining two StrapRight straps, resulting in two double long straps to use to secure the carrier to the vehicle.

Run each of these double long straps through the vehicle, through the d-rings, and over the top of the car top carrier. Rethread the short strap pieces back through the center buckle (Fig 6 above) and tighten.
Final Adjustments for All Straps
Each strap has a plastic tri-glide (Fig 12) to secure the extra length of the strap so that it doesn’t flap in the wind. Always check straps before driving and tie off any excess length (Fig 13). If the straps are too long, cut off the extra length and melt the cut end to prevent fraying. Make sure the straps are positioned at least 20" apart on each side of the vehicle (Fig 14).

When the roof top cargo bag is fully loaded, the straps are snug, and the loose ends are tied off, you are ready to go. We recommend taking a short test drive around the neighborhood before you get underway. Remember to continue to check the straps regularly throughout your trip.
